About Deep Plane Facelift Surgery
A deep plane facelift is performed as an outpatient procedure at our on-site, state-of-the-art surgery centers under general anesthesia. During the procedure, the patient is fully comfortable and monitored throughout, allowing the surgeon to focus on precise work beneath the surface layers of the face and neck.
After the patient is relaxed and comfortable, the surgeon begins by making discreet incisions that are typically hidden around the ears and sometimes extended slightly along the hairline or behind the ear, depending on how much skin needs to be adjusted. Unlike a traditional facelift, the deep plane technique allows the surgeon to work beneath the superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS), releasing deeper facial ligaments and repositioning the midface, jawline, and neck as a unified structure. In select cases, deeper neck components such as excess fat, portions of the platysma muscle, or submandibular gland fullness may also be addressed to improve jawline definition and neck contour.
Once the underlying support structures are repositioned, the skin is gently redraped without excessive tension, and any remaining redundant skin is carefully trimmed. The incisions are then closed with fine sutures to minimize visible scarring and support optimal healing. After a brief observation period, patients are released into the care of an adult family member or friend who will drive them home.
