Your surgeon places a small incision to the lateral (outside) part of the areola. Through this incision, the glandular tissue is removed and liposuction is performed. Combining these two techniques leaves the patient with a natural male chest appearance.* These incisions are imperceptible after a couple of weeks.
Your Surgical Experience
Gynecomastia procedures are performed at Weiler Plastic Surgery under general or local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Patients will need someone to drive them home after the surgery and have someone stay with them for a day or two after surgery. A garment is applied after surgery and should be worn for several weeks following the procedure.
If you are a current smoker, your surgeon advises you to stop smoking for a minimum of three weeks prior to your procedure. Smoking can greatly affect the healing process. All current medications you are taking will be reviewed at your preoperative appointment and we will inform you if anything you are taking will need to be stopped prior to surgery.

Our Talented Team of Plastic Surgeons
Our plastic surgeons bring years of experience and dedication to personalized care to the men and women of Louisiana. Founder Dr. Jonathan Weiler is known for his advanced surgical expertise, extensive knowledge, and warm demeanor. Dr. M'liss Hogan's wealth of skill and experience complement her unique understanding of her patients' needs, and Dr. Pamela Brownlee specializes in both surgical and nonsurgical procedures. Together, they share a vision of enriching and improving their patients' lives.
One of our plastic surgeons and their office staff will assist in making your surgical experience as easy and comfortable as possible. You will be able to discuss your areas of concern and goals for gynecomastia surgery. A physical exam will be done to assess your chest area. You will be given a recommendation for the most effective procedure to meet and exceed your expressed goals, as well as alternative treatments.* At Weiler Plastic Surgery, we would like for you to take as much time as you need to have all of your questions answered. Your satisfaction, desires, and goals are our primary concern.
What to Expect After Surgery
We like to see our patients back in the office one to two days after surgery. At this time, dressings are taken off and incisions are assessed. Concerns are addressed and instructions are reviewed for optimal recovery. After this visit you will be allowed to go home and shower. You should expect some swelling and bruising initially, which will subside over the next couple of weeks. You will return to the office seven days post surgery and again at two weeks for your follow up visits and suture removal. We ask our patients to wear a compression shirt for a minimum of four weeks.
Post-Op Activity Restrictions
Patient’s recovery after gynecomastia procedures are variable, but in general, most patients are able to return to work within a few days with some soreness and are back to normal activities within two to three weeks.* Strenuous activity is to be avoided for the first two to three weeks following the surgery.
For one full year following your surgery, we invite you to enjoy special discounts and rewards through our Post-Op Perks program.
