What You Need to Know When Picking A Cosmetic Provider

With any medical procedure you should do your research. Many people do their research for large procedures such as plastic surgery, but get lazy when it comes to laser services, fillers, or skincare. In my opinion, it is just as important to do research when it comes to smaller procedures because often times these procedures are done on your face.

Did you know…

Not all clinics that offer cosmetic procedures are overseen by a medical doctor.

It is extremely important when receiving Botox, laser skincare, and dermal fillers that there is a trained medical professional performing the procedure. Always seek care through a medical practice such as a plastic surgery practice where there is a Medical Doctor in the office directly overseeing the quality of care and safety.  When inexperienced people perform these medical procedures there could be consequences such as a drooping eyelid or uneven fillers. Although these procedures are accompanied with possible risks, the consequences can be increased when inexperienced people perform these medical procedures.

Feel free to know who is performing your injectable treatments.

There is no harm in asking your care provider for their credentials. This is your body, and you have a right to know before they start poking and prodding your skin. If your provider is a Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner or Medical Doctor  they will have no problem sharing their credentials with you. At Weiler Plastic Surgery, we have a variety of skilled, trained injectors to help you reach your cosmetic goals. You can see everyone’s bio on our website.

Price is not always a determining factor.

Don’t be tempted by the low prices because in my experience if the price seems “too good to be true” then it probably is. Cheaper prices often means that your provider cut corners in some way. There is currently a problem in the US with practices illegally importing Botox and dermal fillers that are not FDA approved and using them in med-spas. According to Dr. James Gordon, New York oculoplastic surgeon, “The risks far outweigh the benefits when price shopping for discount Botox..” If a provider offers treatment without a consultation that should be a red flag. You should always receive a consultation to prevent you from purchasing a treatment that is not right for you.
