Taylor Bech, PA speaks about Kybella and the elimination of the “double chin”

The dreaded double chin.

A cosmetic change that occurs in all patients, seemingly regardless of age or gender. Even moreso, it appears to occur regardless of body mass! Unfortunately for us, our chin area is one of the more highlighted areas of our body, simply because it contrasts with our facial outline so much. Fortunately for us, we all live in the technological age, and we don’t need to remain hampered by the natural, but negative effects of time and genetics.

Today, our physician assistant, Taylor Bech, introduces Kybella, the first and only injectable double chin treatment.

As Taylor mentions, Kybella rids the submental, or double chin, area of fat cells. It does this utilizing deoxycholic acid (DC), a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. In high doses, DC leads to solubilization and cell eradication (basically, dissolving fat tissue). When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.

Procedure Highlights:

  • Completed through a series of small injections in the submental area
  • Area is initially numbed with a topical numbing agent
  • Entire length of procedure is usually 15-20 minutes
  • Typically takes two or more treatments for ideal results
  • No downtime or restrictions
  • No surgery
  • Minimal pain from injection
