Mary Beth, who works at our Metairie, Hammond, and Slidell locations, shares important insights about nasolabial folds and how they affect us as we age. She explains why the cheeks slide down over time, creating those folds, and how filler treatments can help by lifting the face rather than filling the folds directly. Mary Beth discusses the concept of facial balancing, including the areas treated—such as the temples, hairline, lateral cheeks, and jawline—to restore youthful facial contours. Whether you’re in your 20s or looking to replenish volume later in life, Mary Beth covers what to expect during the procedure, possible side effects, and how long the results last. If you want to learn more about how filler can soften nasolabial folds and create a natural, refreshed look, keep listening to what Mary Beth has to share!
I’m Mary Beth, I work in the Metarie, Hammond, and Slidel locations and today we’re going to talk about nasolabial folds which affect us as we age. As we age and lose volume in our face, the cheeks kind of slide down creating this little bold right here. So how do we fix that? Well not like you would think. We don’t put the filler here we put the filler back here to create a lift.
So when you’re young your face is a triangle. As you Age, it’s not a triangle anymore so we’re trying to recreate that triangle by adding some width here and some projection here. The nasolabial folds are treated by adding filler in maybe the temples, the hairline, the lateral cheeks, and the jawline. The actual procedure, we call it facial balancing, and this will address the nasolabial folds. We would numb the face and assess where the needs are for the volume loss to help the nasolabial folds, clean in the face, and then begin to inject according to what the patient needs. It may be a temple that needs filling, a cheek, or a jawline to address this area.
Filler can be for any age. We can start filler in your 20s according to your needs and wants or it can be for aging ladies that need more volume replenishment. The results of filler can be very subtle, but again it’s kind of like Botox. Someone just looks at you and goes goes, “You look so rested, what did you do? You look like you’re aging backwards!” That’s what we want–we don’t want for anyone to ask if we’ve been filled.
So the procedure can create some bruising, most of the time it doesn’t, but you could prepare for that because it can happen. A little bit of swelling, but not too much. You can be party ready in 3 to 4 days. You can expect afterwards to see the nasolabial folds soften as we lift the lateral face and just look maybe like you’ve turned back time a little bit, a little younger, the skin looks softer, and the folds are less deep.
The good news–facial filler can last 12 to 24 months. Addressing the nasolabial folds with filler is a great way to just delay the look of aging that we get from volume loss.
