Comparing Injectables

Injectables classified as neuromodulators all contain various forms of botulinum toxin type A proteins. Even though they’re part of the same category of injectables, they each have subtle differences, including:

  • Dosage: The amount of units required to achieve your desired results varies from product to product
  • Formulation: how much each product spreads once injected varies based on the specific formulation
  • Results: The onset and duration of results vary between products (see our comparison below!)

How Does BOTOX Work?

As the first neurotoxin injectable approved by the FDA, BOTOX boasts the most name recognition and lives up to its reputation as a trusted neuromodulator injectable. BOTOX reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles by temporarily immobilizing the muscles responsible for dynamic facial expressions. The muscles gradually relax once nerve signals are blocked, leading to younger, smoother-looking skin.

Dysport vs. BOTOX

Dysport is very similar to BOTOX but works even faster. Its thinner consistency makes it ideal for treating larger areas of the face, including forehead lines and the 11s—the vertical lines that form between your eyebrows due to repeated squinting or frowning.

Dysport results may be visible as early as 48 hours following treatment, while BOTOX results may take up to a week to appear. If fast results are your top priority, you may prefer Dysport to BOTOX. Dysport, however, tends to spread more from the injection site than BOTOX. That’s okay for larger treatment areas, such as the forehead, but less desirable when you need precision.

XEOMIN vs. BOTOX

XEOMIN stands apart as a BOTOX alternative due to its unique formulation. It has a pure composition containing only the toxin without any added proteins. This makes it an attractive option if you have experienced any resistance to BOTOX or other injectables. Plus, XEOMIN requires fewer units than BOTOX to achieve your desired results.

DAXXIFY vs BOTOX

DAXXIFY has some unique differentiators compared to its injectable counterparts. Its proprietary peptide technology contains no human or animal products, making it an excellent alternative for vegans. It also works faster and lasts up to twice as long as BOTOX and other neuromodulators. DAXXIFY can achieve natural-looking results with a lower risk of side effects, making it an appealing option for many patients.

Jeuveau vs. BOTOX

As the first FDA-approved neurotoxin created solely for cosmetic use, Jeuveau continues to gain ground as an appealing alternative to BOTOX, especially for treating stubborn glabellar lines (the 11s). While it is formulated similarly to BOTOX, some patients find it may kick in earlier and last slightly longer.  Like other injectables, you won’t have any downtime after Jeuveau, with the exception of some minor redness or bruising at the injection sites.

Comparing the Cost of BOTOX Alternatives

Your total treatment cost will vary based on your specific treatment, required dosage, and unique needs. We price our injectable neurotoxins by unit, with Dysport usually costing less per unit than other injectables due to its special dilution. However, more Dysport vs BOTOX units may be necessary to achieve your desired results. The best way to decipher your injectable treatment costs is to arrange a personalized consultation with one of our experienced injectors.

How Long Do Results Take?

How long your results take to appear and how long they last are differentiators that may help steer you toward one injectable or another. Let’s compare below:
