Tummy Tuck

Regular exercise, a wholesome diet, and a healthy body weight can only go so far when it comes to achieving a firm, attractive midsection. While you may take good care of yourself, you might still be frustrated by a belly bulge and sagging skin. Abdominoplasty, often called a tummy tuck, with Baton Rouge plastic surgeon Dr. Jonathan Weiler may be the most effective solution when abdominal skin and muscles don’t bounce back after pregnancy and major weight loss. Dr. Weiler helps women and men attain the contoured look they envision for themselves with this surgery.

Are You a Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?

Women and men visit Dr. Weiler for tummy tuck surgery in Baton Rouge and Hammond, LA, to renew their midsections after pregnancy, significant weight loss, and aging have caused sagging and bulging in the abdominal area. Dr. Weiler personalizes this procedure for each patient’s unique anatomy and cosmetic goals to provide the following benefits:

  • Tightening lax, wrinkled abdominal skin
  • Flattening a belly bulge by repairing stretched, separated abdominal muscles
  • Contouring the waist and hips
  • Reshaping the belly button
  • Reducing stretch marks

Dr. Weiler often addresses multiple concerns in one surgery by combining tummy tuck with other procedures. After pregnancy, delivery, and breastfeeding, women may choose Mommy Makeover surgery to rejuvenate the tummy, breasts, and other areas. After bariatric surgery, a tummy tuck may be combined with an arm lift and thigh lift for an even greater improvement.

About the Surgery

Dr. Weiler performs abdominoplasty as an outpatient procedure using general anesthesia. He typically places an incision that spans between the hip bones just above the pubic area, and a second incision that traces the inner navel. After separating the skin from the inner tissues, he repairs the abdominal muscles if necessary. He also performs aggressive liposuction of the belly, hips, and waist to contour the midsection. Dr. Weiler completes the procedure by smoothing the outer skin down, inserting the navel through its new location in the tightened skin, trimming excess lax skin, and closing the incisions.

During the surgery, 2 thin tubes called surgical drains are inserted through the incision to aid in removing excess fluid from treated areas to accelerate healing and reduce swelling.

Dual Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon

Dr. Jonathan Weiler

Extensively trained and experienced in cosmetic surgery of the face, breasts, and body, Dr. Weiler takes pride in bringing state-of-the-art techniques to his home state of Louisiana. His genuinely caring personality enables patients to connect and share their concerns with him for truly personalized results.

With a rare combination of exceptional credentials and a down-to-earth, caring personality, Dr. Weiler transforms aesthetic visions into reality. He offers procedures for the face, breasts, and body, including specialized techniques that minimize pain and recovery time.

You will need an adult friend or family member to drive you home after surgery and help you out for the first few days. Because a non-opioid medication called EXPAREL® is applied to the surgical area during surgery, pain is typically well controlled for the first 72 hours.

Help the Healing Process

While you may not be able to stand fully upright initially, it is important to get up and walk slowly as soon as the evening of your surgery or the next morning. Light walking promotes circulation and facilitates the healing process.

You will need to wear a surgical body-shaping garment at all times for the first 2 weeks, and then as much as possible for a total of 4 to 6 weeks. The constant gentle pressure minimizes swelling and encourages smooth contours as your body heals.

Check in With Dr. Weiler

You will return for your first post-op check a day or 2 after surgery so we can remove your dressings and examine the incisions. Drains are usually removed at the 1-week post-op visit.

Return to Your Routine

While recovery rates vary, most patients are ready to return to work and daily activities within 2 weeks. You will need to hold off on strenuous exercise for about 6 weeks or as directed by Dr. Weiler.
