A breast lift is a cosmetic breast enhancement surgery that simply removes the excess tissue that has stretched over time. This procedure tightens the skin in ways that the body can’t any longer. The best part is that when you work with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons, you will always feel as if you are emerging from a body that simply wasn’t right into the one that is right for you. Even incisions are placed carefully and stitched carefully in order to reduce any scarring or visible surgical signs.*
When performed as a standalone procedure, breast lift surgery helps women from New Orleans and throughout southern Louisiana rejuvenate their breast shape without a change in size. It is also performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation to help women achieve the fullness and shape they desire and give them the confidence they deserve.*

Our surgeons’ customized approach to breast lift surgery means the cost of your procedure depends on the specifics of the surgery and other factors that vary from patient to patient. Whether you undergo a breast lift with or without implants also impacts the final cost. You can get more details about the price range for a breast lift with augmentation and what’s included in the cost in our blog post. Our plastic surgeons provide each patient with a personalized price quote as part of the consultation process. We offer financing options for qualified patients, making cosmetic plastic surgery accessible to as many people as possible.

Your surgeon places the breast lift incision around the areola with a linear incision from the bottom of the areola down to the bottom of the breast. This scar hides well under swimsuits and garments. The length of the scar can vary depending on the patient. After a few months, these scars are virtually invisible.* Your surgeon will remove some breast tissue from the bottom of the breast to tighten the supportive tissue, raising the breast and giving them a fuller, rounder, firmer appearance.* The nipple remains intact throughout the procedure and is pulled to a higher location on the breast.
Breast lifts are performed at Weiler Plastic Surgery on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. Patients will need someone to drive them home after the surgery and have someone stay with them a day or two after surgery. A support garment, akin to a bra, is applied after surgery and should be worn for six weeks.
If you are a current smoker, our surgeons advise you to stop smoking a minimum of three weeks prior to your procedure. Smoking can greatly affect the healing process after a breast lift or breast augmentation. All current medications will be reviewed at your preoperative appointment and we will inform you if anything you are taking will need to be stopped prior to surgery.
One of our board-certified plastic surgeons and their office staff will assist in making your surgical experience as easy and comfortable as possible. You will be able to meet with your surgeon to discuss your areas of concern and goals for your breast surgery. A physical exam will be done to assess your breasts and you will be given a recommendation for the most effective procedure to meet and exceed your expressed goals, as well as alternative treatments.* At Weiler Plastic Surgery, we’d like for you to take as much time as you need to have all of your questions answered by the professionals. Your satisfaction, desires, and goals are our primary concern.
We like to see our patients back in the office one to two days after surgery. At this time, dressings are removed and the incisions are assessed. Questions or concerns will be addressed as well and further instructions reviewed for optimal recovery. After the initial visit, you will be allowed to go home and shower. Patients will be seen at a week and again at two weeks post-operatively, at which time sutures will be removed if they are healing well. You should expect some swelling and bruising initially that will subside within a few weeks. Nipple sensation and skin sensitivity vary depending on the patient, but will return to normal over time.* Walking around after your surgery is very important to promote blood flow and decrease swelling.
Typical patients’ recovery after a breast lift procedure are variable, but in general most patients are able to return to work within five to seven days and are back to normal activities within two to three weeks.* Strenuous activity is to be avoided for several weeks following the surgery with patients lifting no more than 10 pounds for the first two weeks. At six weeks most patients are able to resume normal activity and exercise with no restrictions.
For one full year following your surgery, we invite you to enjoy special discounts and rewards through our Post-Op Perks program.
While experiences vary, most breast lift patients recover along the following timeline:
Day of surgery:
Begin gentle walking multiple times a day.
1 to 2 days:
Dressings removed at post-op check. OK to shower.
3 to 5 days:
Discomfort peaks.
5 to 7 days:
Return to school or nonstrenuous jobs.
1 week:
Second post-op check.
7 to 10 days:
Swelling and bruising dissipate.
1 to 2 weeks:
Resume normal, daily activities.
2 weeks:
Sutures removed. Lifting > 10 pounds allowed.
6 weeks:
Resume strenuous exercise. OK to stop wearing a surgical bra.
6 to 8 weeks:
Nipple sensation returns to normal.
6 to 12+ months:
Scars fade.
Our surgeons can safely combine breast lift surgery with other procedures to improve multiple areas with a single surgery and recovery period. Options include:
Combining breast enhancement surgery with a tummy tuck is often called a mommy makeover because it rejuvenates areas commonly affected by pregnancy and breastfeeding.

You may wear a smaller cup size after a breast lift, even though little to no breast tissue is removed. That’s because the procedure eliminates stretched, excess skin and lifts the breasts into a higher, firmer position. As a result, your breasts may project less and fit differently in a bra—often leading to a smaller cup size on paper, even though your breast volume hasn’t significantly changed.
A breast lift lasts many years if you maintain a stable weight, wear a supportive bra consistently, and do not become pregnant. The aging process will continue, so there is a chance of sagging in the future.
There’s no hard limit on the number of breast lifts a person can have. Most people only need one procedure; however, you may desire a second lift later in life to counter the effects of aging, significant weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or implant removal. These factors can affect breast shape and skin elasticity, making a revision lift beneficial in some cases.
There’s no “best” age for breast lift surgery. Candidacy depends on your concerns and degree of breast ptosis (sagging) rather than age. Regarding “how old is too old for a breast lift,” the discussion is more about whether you are cleared for surgery and can safely tolerate anesthesia.
No, your nipples are not removed during a breast lift. Instead, they’re carefully repositioned to a higher, more youthful location while staying attached to the underlying tissue to preserve sensation and function. In most cases, your nipples will look normal after healing—they’ll just be higher, more centered, and in better proportion to your new breast shape.
The best way to treat breast lift scars and ensure optimal healing is to follow your surgeon’s aftercare instructions. Keep the incisions clean and dry, avoid sun exposure, and use recommended scar treatments like silicone sheets or scar gel once the skin has healed. While some scarring is inevitable, it typically blends with your skin tone over time and can often be hidden under bras or swimsuits. With proper care, most breast lift scars become much less noticeable within a year.
If you want to restore both shape and volume, especially in the upper breast, combining a breast lift with implants may be the right choice. Implants add fullness that a lift alone can’t provide. You can typically choose from saline or silicone implants, depending on your goals and anatomy.
If you prefer a more natural approach, fat grafting may be an option instead of implants, though it offers a subtler volume boost. A consultation with your surgeon will help you decide which combination—or standalone procedure—best fits your needs.
