Are You a Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

Virtually any woman who is in good overall health and wants to enhance the size or shape of her breasts is a potential candidate for breast augmentation. Breast Augmentation vs. Breast Lift Surgery

Breast augmentation and breast lift surgery are breast enhancement procedures that provide different benefits. To enhance both breast size and shape, our plastic surgeons often perform these procedures together as a breast augmentation with lift, especially when patients from Baton Rouge, Metairie, and New Orleans, LA, have breastfed their babies or lost a lot of weight.

What’s the Difference Between Saline and Silicone Implants?

There are two primary implant options for breast augmentation: silicone breast implants or saline breast implants.

Saline

  • 0.9% injectable NaCl
  • Filled by surgeon
  • Adjustable size and overfill
  • Firmer
  • Wrinkling and rippling more common
  • Deflation visible

Silicone Gel

  • Silicone gel matrix
  • Prefilled by manufacturer
  • Softer, more natural feel
  • Less wrinkling and rippling
  • “Silent rupture” risk

Breast Implants We Offer

Customizing your breast augmentation surgery includes several implant options. We offer Motiva® silicone gel implants, known for their advanced technology, natural feel, and smooth surface design, as well as Natrelle® implants from Allergan, one of the nation’s leading breast implant manufacturers.

Motiva Implants

These next-generation devices behave well both beneath and above the muscle, opening up new opportunities for many patients.

Motiva® SmoothSilk® Ergonomix® and Motiva® SmoothSilk® Round breast implants offer improved comfort, safety, and aesthetic results, giving patients a new alternative for breast augmentation. As the most modern implant on the market, Motiva’s state-of-the-art technology provides soft, natural results.

Both Natrelle and Motiva implants provide results that look and feel natural. Each brand offers unique technologies and design features to cater to diverse needs and preferences. The choice of implant type often depends on individual anatomy, desired outcomes, and your surgeon’s recommendations.

Allergan Natrelle Implants

Natrelle is the only collection of smooth implants with 3 gummy gels of different cohesiveness. They are all soft with varying levels of squishiness. They include:

Natrelle INSPIRA Responsive: These are the least gummy of the Natrelle implants. They are cohesive gel implants that look and feel full yet soft to the touch compared to other implants.

Natrelle INSPIRA SoftTouch: SoftTouch implants are more cohesive than the Responsive but still have a “soft touch” feel. Like the Responsive, they are smooth, round gel implants but are technically more cohesive and softer than other cohesive implants. SoftTouch implants generally cost more than Responsive models.

Natrelle INSPIRA Cohesive: The cohesive or “gummy bear” implants are the most cohesive of the 3 styles. These are smooth, round, and more form-stable implants, often used for breast augmentation revisions when tissue coverage is thin or extremely visible rippling has been an issue.

Natrelle saline-filled breast implants are also available.

What is Preservé™ Breast Augmentation?

Preservé™ Breast Augmentation by Motiva® is a modern, minimally invasive approach designed to enhance your shape while preserving your natural anatomy. Instead of cutting through muscle or significant breast tissue, this innovative technique works with your body by gently creating space for implants, helping maintain strength, sensation, and structure.

Using smaller incisions and a refined surgical approach, Preservé™ supports a smoother recovery with less swelling and discomfort. It may also reduce the risk of complications such as bleeding and capsular contracture.

During the procedure, a precise pocket is created within the breast tissue to securely support the implant and ensure it sits naturally. This attention to detail allows for soft, balanced results that look and feel like your own breasts.

Preservé™ can also be combined with a breast lift or other procedures for more comprehensive rejuvenation.

Implant Profiles

Breast implant profiles, which generally range from low to high, describe how far an implant projects from its base.

Low

These implants are wider at the base and project the least amount from the chest than the others, making them a good choice for women who want subtle results or have a broader frame.

Moderate

This implant profile, which is in the middle, provides the most natural-looking results for the majority of breast augmentation patients.

High

This implant profile sticks out the farthest and has the narrowest base, which provides more dramatic results than the others and fits well with a slim frame.

breast augmentation - incision placement

Incision Placement

Our surgeons place the implants below the chest muscle through a small incision approximately 4 cm long. The incision for breast augmentation is placed under the fold of the breast and hides very well under swimsuits and undergarments. Within a few months, the scar is virtually invisible.*

Your Surgical Experience

This procedure is performed at Weiler Plastic Surgery under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. They are then placed in a bra garment that is to be worn at all times for six weeks. After surgery, patients will need someone to drive them home and stay with them for a day or two.

1

The Consultation Process

One of our board-certified plastic surgeons and their office staff will assist in making your surgical experience as easy and comfortable as possible. You will be able to meet with one of our surgeons to discuss your areas of concern and goals for your breast surgery. A physical exam will be done to assess your breasts and you will be given a recommendation for the most effective procedure to meet and exceed your expressed goals, as well as alternative treatments.* At Weiler Plastic Surgery, we’d like for you to take as much time as you need to have all of your questions answered by the professionals. Your satisfaction, desires, and goals are our primary concern.

2

What to Expect After Surgery

We like to see our patients back in the office one to two days after surgery. At this time, dressings are removed and the incisions are assessed. Questions or concerns will be addressed as well and further instructions reviewed for optimal recovery. After the initial visit, you will be allowed to go home and shower. Patients will be seen at a week and again at two weeks post-operatively, at which time sutures will be removed if they are healing well. You should expect some swelling and bruising initially that will subside within a few weeks. Nipple sensation and skin sensitivity vary depending on the patient but will return to normal over time.* Walking around after your surgery is very important to promote blood flow and decrease swelling.

3

Post-Op Activity Restrictions

Typical patients’ recovery after a breast augmentation procedure is variable, but in general, most patients are able to return to work within five to seven days and are back to normal activities within two to three weeks.* Strenuous activity is to be avoided for several weeks following the surgery with patients lifting no more than 10 pounds for the first two weeks. At six weeks most patients are able to resume normal activity and exercise with no restrictions.

For one full year following your surgery, we invite you to enjoy special discounts and rewards through our Post-Op Perks program.

Recovery Timeline After Breast Enhancement Surgery

While experiences vary, most breast augmentation patients recover along the following timeline:

Day of surgery:

Begin gentle walking multiple times a day.

1 to 2 days:

Post-op check and dressings removed. OK to shower.

3 to 5 days:

Discomfort peaks.

5 to 7 days:

Return to school and nonstrenuous jobs.

1 week:

Second post-op check.

2 weeks:

Sutures removed. Lifting > 10 pounds allowed.

2 to 3 weeks:

Resume normal, daily activities.

3 to 4 weeks:

Swelling and bruising dissipate.

6 weeks:

6 to 12 weeks:

6 to 12+ months:

Scars fade.

Tips for a Smooth Recovery

The best way to avoid complications and attain the best possible results is to follow your doctor’s post-op instructions closely. Tips include:

  • Sleep on your back with your upper body elevated. Pillows or sleeping in a recliner can help.
  • Do not sleep face down for at least 2 weeks.
  • Wear a surgical bra instead of an underwire bra.
  • Keep the incisions clean and dry.
  • Perform implant massage as directed.
  • Consider scheduling Ballancer®Pro lymphatic drainage treatments to improve comfort and healing.

Can Breast Enhancement Surgery Be Combined With Other Procedures?

Yes. Many women choose to have other procedures combined with breast enhancement—called a Mommy Makeover—to attain multiple improvements with a single surgery and recovery period. Popular options include:

Frequently Asked Questions in Louisiana

Do breast implants cost more by size?

No, the size of implant typically doesn’t influence overall cost. Factors that may impact the cost of your breast augmentation include the type of implant (saline vs. silicone), the surgeon’s fees, and the facility where the procedure is performed. Silicone gel breast implants are more expensive than saline implants and have a fixed size, while saline implants are filled after placement for a more customizable size.

If you’re wondering how to afford a ‘boob job,’ we offer financing options through trusted partners to help you manage the cost of your procedure over time.

How do I know what size is right for me?

The best breast implant size for you depends on your body proportions and your desired look. Keep in mind that breast implants are sized by volume (cubic centimeters) rather than cup size and that what looks great on one woman may look entirely different on another.

Our surgeons will take into account a variety of factors when recommending a breast implant size, including your:

  • Current breast size
  • Cosmetic goals
  • Anatomy, including the width of your chest and hips
  • Lifestyle

Nationally, women tend to choose breast implants between 300 cc and 400 cc. However, size is a personal choice and should reflect your unique goals.

How long does a boob job last?

Breast implants, either silicone gel or saline, can last for 10 to 15 years or more. You may often hear that implants should be replaced after 10 years, but this isn’t a hard rule—many women enjoy their results much longer.

If you have silicone implants, routine MRI or ultrasound screenings are recommended to check for silent rupture. Saline implants deflate more noticeably if a leak occurs, making issues easier to detect without imaging.

Keep in mind that natural aging, pregnancy, or weight changes may affect the look of your breasts over time. If you notice sagging, a breast lift can often restore a more youthful contour.

What if I want to replace or remove my implants later?

If you want to replace your implants, our plastic surgeons perform breast augmentation revision to change them to a different type or size. If your preferences change and you no longer want implants, you can have explant surgery to remove them.

What type of boob job looks the most natural?

Many women believe the most natural-looking and feeling breast augmentation is fat transfer breast augmentation, often called “natural breast augmentation.” This technique uses the patient’s own unwanted body fat to enhance the breasts. Fat transfer breast augmentation is for women who want a modest increase in their breast size (a cup size at most).

As far as traditional breast augmentation goes, the implants that feel the most natural are silicone and gummy bear implants. These implant materials are also available in an anatomical, teardrop shape for an even more subtle look.

Can you feel your nipples after breast augmentation surgery?

Yes, you will still have sensation in your nipples after breast augmentation surgery, but you may experiences changes in sensitivity during your recovery. These are nearly always temporary and resolve on their own.

Can you breastfeed with a boob job?

In most cases, yes, you can breastfeed with breast implants. Your ability to nurse depends on factors like incision placement, implant position, and whether the milk ducts or nerves were affected during surgery. Most modern techniques are designed to preserve breastfeeding function.

If you prefer to express milk, you can also safely pump with implants. Be sure to let your provider know about your implants to ensure proper pump fit and comfort.
